Full Disk Access
A whole-disk scan may require Full Disk Access because macOS hides protected locations from regular apps. If Tanuki reports that Full Disk Access is required, enable Tanuki Cleaner in System Settings, relaunch the app, and scan again.
Full Disk Access does not change the product's local scan model. Tanuki Cleaner is designed to build the map from local file-system metadata and is not designed to upload scanned file contents for analysis.
Hidden System Storage
If macOS reports more used space than the visible file tree explains, Tanuki labels the difference as hidden system storage. This can include purgeable storage, APFS snapshots, protected volume data, system metadata, or areas macOS does not expose as normal files.
Safe Deletion
Delete only items you recognize. Use Finder reveal before collecting unfamiliar paths. Tanuki blocks system containers and warns on app/account data, but backups are still your responsibility.
Before You Delete
Review the path, size, and folder context. Reveal unfamiliar items in Finder. Be especially careful with Library folders, app containers, project folders, photos, videos, documents, and anything that affects work you cannot easily replace.
Keep a current backup before using any deletion tool. Tanuki Cleaner is built around explicit review and confirmation, but permanent deletion can still remove data you may later need.
If You Think You Deleted The Wrong Thing
Stop using the affected disk as soon as practical, check your backups, and review whether the item exists in another sync provider, export location, or backup snapshot. Email support with the app version, macOS version, deleted path if known, and the time of deletion.
Tanuki Cleaner is not a file recovery product. Recovery options depend on macOS, your backups, sync services, and whether the deleted data has already been overwritten.
